Happy Friday!

My little one hasn't been feeling well this week. Late Monday night, he began running a fever. He was lethargic, coughing.
By Tuesday evening, he was all congested, runny (nasty) nose, coughing, fever....just feeling bad.
Wednesday night he seemed to be feeling a little better. That's when I noticed him scratching his head. He had some itchy bumps here and there on his scalp, and what looked like a zit on his cheek.
Yesterday, he developed a few more bumps on his face.
And the red, raw nose, along with the spots?
Here's one on his hand....
Close up of my miserable boy...
I consulted Dr. Google and discovered that, although rare, you can get Chickenpox from the vaccine....which he had just 3 weeks ago. His fever started on day 18 and Dr. Google says the incubation period is 10-21 days. These cases are usually mild with fewer than 20 spots.
I'm thinking it probably happens quite often and parents just fail to report it due to the mildness.
So, what do you think? Is it Chickenpox????

Looks like pox, but it isn't acting like pox. Does he have them in hot spots? The "hot bath" trick didn't work when we had them instead it took about 3 days for them to really take hold.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, good luck, and hope he feels better...oh and go get some calamine lotion!
Shoot - I've not seen pox since I had them back in Kindergarten, I'm no help. But I am your newest follower via FF!
ReplyDeleteI vaccinated all of my kids and thought that I would never have to deal with chicken pox. I was wrong, my son came down with them in his teens! It started off with a fever and flu-like symptoms, then the bumps started. I second the suggestion to get some calamine lotion!
ReplyDeleteGood luck and I hope your son feels better soon!
Let the doc have a look. It looks like the chickie pox to me, but then, I'm a chef, not a doctor.
ReplyDeleteHow is he now Lisa?
