Happy Cyber Monday!! Can you believe that tomorrow is December?!?! Wow, this year has gone by so very quickly. The days are truly getting away from me. (I hear that happens when you reach a certain age...)
Well, a few days ago, I posted about a series of catastrophies that befell my laptop. It wasn't pretty. And it still isn't....
I think anyone reading this can imagine my frustration at this point. Using vivid imagination, insert your mind's version of a totally frazzled woman hyped up on too much caffeine, destroying a computer (any computer) with a ballping hammer...
My laptop definitely has a virus and it's doing weird things, like asking me for my ATM Pin number when I try to sign on to eBay. My anti-virus program is flagging the virus but can't remove it. With the additional Coke Zero problem, I just can't risk working on it myself-I'm just not computer savvy. And, our financial situation (much like many others) means that taking it to a shop is out of the question. So....I turned it off and placed it gently on a shelf in the bookcase. Goodbye, dear friend.
Thankfully, I do have the option of the overworked family desktop. It is constantly occupied by someone, though, so my Internet time will be very limited. Can you say Buh-bye Twitter friends??
I feel so selfish! There are people around me that are jobless, with no prospects, wondering what in the heck they are going to do, and I'm griping and complaining about my laptop. Ya know, as long as it works out that my kids have a decent Christmas, I oughta be thrilled. So many people will do without this year.
And, like I said....I can use the family desktop. I may have to put up a sign-in sheet and limit each user to 30 minutes like they do at the library, though.
And here's my question of the day....
Why is the over-worked desktop virus-free?!?!?! I mean, I update and usually run my anti-virus and spyware programs daily. I just don't get it.
I don't know where I'll be, when I'll be, or how often I'll be, but I do know that I'll be around. I just gotta!

Maybe all the germs kids have scared the virus away.
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely try MTM. JDaniel loves it. I love to see what the other mom do. It inspires me to try something new.
We have a good desktop and a crappy laptop as well. I usually use the desktop or nothing. The problem is that hubby and I usually want the desktop at the same time. We're still working that out. I hope you find enough time to do what you like on the computer. It's hard to share one computer for a whole family.
ReplyDeleteSounds to me like you need an iPhone. ;)
ReplyDeleteI feel for you Lisa! I had the opposite problem our desktop went absolutely bonkers, viruses I am sure.
ReplyDeleteLook at it this way, even though you may not get as much internet time as you usually do, at least you have the desktop as an option to get a little time. Just think how horrible it would be if you had nothing!
Oh geez, it seems like you just got internet back not too long ago and now this! I'm so sorry!
ReplyDeleteBlueVi is right! I did just struggle through an annoying time with a screwed up DSL connection! Argghh..... So very frustrating. It'll work out, though. It always does!
ReplyDeleteLisa
Hmmm... I wonder if there's a friend or relative who might be able to fix it for you in exchange for something like a home-cooked meal? Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteGrr, I loath computer problems. I hope you get it worked out soon. I miss seeing you around.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get it worked out soon, but know you have extra time for other things.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing you have more than one computer:)
I feel ya! Computers are a pain!! I hope the computer fairy pays you a visit!
ReplyDeleteWhy can't computers just work? Why? I think computers are just so frustrating! Keep persisting and show that computer whose boss! :)
ReplyDeleteoh no! sorry to hear about your laptop. I actually lost my laptop to my daughter's cleaning. She sprayed windex on the keyboard and then our 2 year old magically crashed the screen. I am also working on a desktop that is close to 10 years old. Its funny when my friends come over and want to check their mail..They always ask me why it takes 20 mins to boot up..lol! I am used to the slowness and I love the fact that it is always there for me. Have you tried to use AVG software for viruses? good luck!
ReplyDeleteI hate when I have computer problems. I am so not good with those things. My brother in law has been trying to help me with mine??
