Well, after a few days of chaos, I am slowly digging my way out. I think my problem is actually a multitude of things all happening at one time, knocking me for a loop. I have calmed down some, but I realize that the lack of a routine is a big part of my problem.
I've never been a routine kinda girl. You know from 7-8am breakfast, dressed, devotions; 8-9am morning chores; etc. I wish (oh, how I wish this fit my personality)!!
It just doesn't.
With a family of seven, a couple of dyslexics, a child with language and developmental delays, a baby with heart problems, several morning folks and a couple of night owls.....Well, how do you schedule around all of that?!?!?
The answer.....very carefully. I am currently homeschooling in shifts.
My high-schooler gets started with her school work at about 10:00 am. She does household chores and helps with feeding the boys before school.
My 3rd grader starts at noon. He is a great student and loves to finish his school work so he can do art.
My Kindergartener starts at 2:00. We use Five In A Row and usually have the 3rd grader sitting with us for this.
The baby is usually napping from 12:30 until about 2:30 or 3:00, so this is working.
Then I get a break. Well, almost. This is when I do laundry, more chores, feed the baby, do paper work for our home business, and all that kind of stuff.
Then at 8:30 or 9:00, when everyone else is settling down for the night (neighborhood kids included), my 6th grader starts school. He needs one-on-one and as few distractions as possible. Since we are the night owls, this seems to be the answer.
We've been making it to bed by about 1:30 am-not much later than normal. Since my oldest is around to help in the mornings, I can sleep in. My 6th grader gets his play and quiet time while the others are schooling. He will pitch in and play with the baby if he needs entertainment.
This has worked great for the past few days. With the exception of the ER trip last night. (3rd grader cut his foot and is now on crutches for a week-but that's a whole 'nuther story.)
It's still a new schedule, so we'll work it and see what happens.
I'm feeling pretty good about it.

Now, if I could just find a way to tackle the clutter/junk problem we have!
Maybe a 12 step program???? ![]()
I mean, I'm not new at this! This is our 9th year.
And it's not just with school. I can't seem to sit still and concentrate on anything-Bible study, housework, bills, our business.....
